Fläkt Woods secured a significant contract for Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, providing hygienic EU air handlers at their R&D Centre in Mölndal, Sweden.

Fläkt Woods secured a significant contract for Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, providing Hygienic EU air handlers at their Research & Development Centre in Mölndal, Sweden. The EU air handlers were equipped with ECOTERM®, Fläkt Woods’ heat & cooling recovery system as well as its patented HEPA filters.

Before the order was placed, consultationand design phases (including a feasibilitystudy) took 1.5 years, during which timethey tested the new technology to prove the system was capable of delivering theextremely high standards expected at thepharmaceutical plant.

Big research unit

The Mölndal site is one of the biggest research units of Astra Zeneca. Some 2.500 people work there with the research and development of medicines within cardiovascular and gastro-intestinal areas. Astra Zeneca is a global key customer of Fläkt Woods and their internal guidelines for AHU´s are aligned with the performance of Fläkt Woods air handling equipment.

Total flexibility

Fläkt Woods secured a significant contract for Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, providing hygienic air handlers at their Research & Development Centre in Mölndal, Sweden. The EU air handlers were equipped with ECOTERM®, Fläkt Woods’ heat & cooling recovery system as well as its patented HEPA filters. The unit meets relevant CEN standards for AHU performance and are Eurovent certified, as well as being hygienic and easy to service and clean.


With an airflow range of between 0.2 to 34 m3/s and available in up to 23 different sizes, the range has the flexibility that companies require to easily combine the sizes with the air handling functions they need.

ECOTERM® recovers heat from the exhaust air and radically lowers heating costs for ventilation air. Placement is flexible, one coil is positioned in the exhaust air duct and one in the supply air duct, and these are then connected in a closed liquid circuit. This eliminates transferring of crossover air leakage.
