EL Air Handling Units selected forprestigious Australian contract
Fläkt Woods is providing its EL air handling units for one of the world’s biggest greenhouses, at the Waite Campus site of the University of Adelaide in Australia. The high technology glasshouse will allow continuous measurements of the physical attributes of plants automatically and non-destructively.
Fläkt Woods’EL system provides optimised performance
The high technology glasshouse, with over 1km of conveyor systems and state-of-the art imaging, robotic and computing equipment, will allow continuous measurements of the physical attributes of plants automatically and non-destructively.
It is part of a project known as the Plant Accelerator, which will be a world-leading plant growth and analysis facility, and it is here that Fläkt Woods is supplying 39 units from its new EL range of air handling equipment.
The EL system provides optimised performance and the highest quality, from an economical, yet competitively priced unit. Like other Fläkt Woods products, the EL is designed to reduce energy consumption. So with increasing energy prices, the benefits of the EL will continue over the lifetime of the product.
The range has outputs from 0.1 m3/s (360 CMH) to 10 m3/s (36,000 CMH), and its modular construction is easily adapted to meet every project as though it were a bespoke scheme.
Fläkt Woods won the contract from Westside Mechanical Contracting, one of the largest specialist mechanical services contractors in South Australia, and the main contractor on the project is Built Environs.
The facility will accommodate 160,000 plants a year, in programs such as those aimed at increasing drought and salinity tolerance in wheat and barley. Research on other economically important crops such as grapevines will also take place.
The EL units are manufactured by Fläkt Woods in Wuxi, China. EL provides optimized performance and top quality to each project. From 0.1 m3/s to 10 m3/s, EL covers a wide range of airflows for many applications. The units are built on a robust framework of box-section aluminum frame members screwed together withstrong corner pieces and clad with 50 mm thick panels to create a rigid casing with excellent thermal and sound attenuating characteristics.
